Scoring Guide

The Scoring tab displays the Max Score, Mastery Score, Factor, Points and Weight of each item on a test. The scoring of an item is based on the item type and how many answer choices or points available.

Scoring Columns

Item Type - listed in the left column.

Extended Text -

  • Teachers score these items from the responses and rubric section of TEKScore.

  • Max default for Extended Text items is set in TAG when the item is created.

  • To adjust the weight of rubric items on an assessment, change the factor of the non rubric questions to equally distribute the percentages or weight of items

  • The max range of rubric items is 10

Max Score - The highest number of points awarded for an item.

Mastery Score - A flag indicating a student mastered a test question. Some reports in TEKScore show if a student mastered an item.

Factor - The factor of an item changes how much a question is worth on the test changing both the points and weight. Change the factor to zero if wanting to test students' knowledge without the item counting against their score.

Points - How many points an item is worth.

Weight - The percentage an item is worth on a test.


Score Like STAAR

Test keys that meet the STAAR scoring criteria will see the "Use STAAR Scoring" option on the Scoring Tab. Select this option to apply the STAAR scoring rules.

Test Criteria

A test must meet certain criteria to be eligible to score like STAAR.

  1. At least one test item, Extended Text excluded, must have a max point value that exceeds 2 points.

  2. All multiple-part (Multi-part) items must be limited to 2 Single Response item types.


Scoring Rules


STAAR scoring rules scale all test items to a maximum of 2 points. Extended Text items are excluded.


  • The item’s Max Points value is scaled down to a maximum of 2 points and cannot be adjusted. Partial credit will be awarded for responses that are at least 50% correct.

  • The item’s Mastery Point value is set to the Max Point value and cannot be adjusted(extended text excluded). 

  • The item’s Factor value defaults to 1 but may be adjusted to 0.

Single Response (Multiple Choice)

One point for each correct answer.

Multiple Response

One point for each correct answer.

True or False

One point for each correct answer.

Inline Choice

Each drop-down has one correct answer. Each drop-down equals one point.

Short Text

One point for each correct answer. The correct response is scored by the software.

Inline Text

One point for each correct answer. The correct response is scored by the software.

Extended Text (Rubrics)

Rubric scoring 1-10. Teacher scored. 

Numeric

One point for each correct answer.

Drag and Drop Inline

One point for each correct answer. The correct response is scored by the software.

Match Table Grid

One point for each column or each row.

Hot Text

One point for each correct answer. Multiple correct answers are optional.

Hot Spot

One point for each correct answer. Multiple correct answers are optional.

Equation Editor

One point for each correct answer.

Fraction Model

One point for each correct answer. Can be Equivalent or Exact.

Graphing

One point for each correct answer.

Multi-Part

Points determined by parts that comprise the item. Item is dependency scored (see below).

Multi-part Dependency Scoring


In order for a student to earn points on a multi-part item they must meet mastery points on the preceding part. Multi-part items that contain extended text items must be scored by the teacher before the item is scored correctly. Examples are below.
