Formatting Items

When creating or editing assessment items in TAG, both the question stem and the answer choices have a toolbar with formatting icons.
This is when you are in Design mode, which is the default for editing.
Refer to our other videos if you'd like to switch to HTML for specific formatting tips for passages or math content.
Hover over each icon to see its function.
If copying and pasting content from an outside source, it's best to use the “Paste Plain Text” icon on the far left.
This will strip out pre-existing formatting.
Highlight the text and click the icons at the beginning to change things like text alignment, make it bold or italic, or add superscripts or bulleted lists.
Use the “Insert code snippet” icon to insert special characters or the “Insert Spanish symbol” instead of using keyboard shortcuts.
It's important to use these icons when you need these characters because they are distinguished by code and read differently with text-to-speech.
For this reason, you don't want to use your keyboard to enter any of these symbols.
The last several icons in the bar help you format beyond just text.
They include adding images, testing how an item is read aloud for text-to-speech, adding content and language supports, or media.

Click this icon, which looks like a computer screen, to switch to full-screen mode.
This is particularly helpful if you're adding graphics or want to get a better view of longer questions or answer choices. Click the icon once more to return to the previous view.
