Extended Text Item

From the Text Entry section, the extended text item type allows students to write an in-depth response to a reading passage or prompt.
These are then scored by teachers using the Rubric section under Responses or Online Sessions.
Click the box or green plus icon.
You can see here that we have four sections.
The Question, Max Rubric Score, Response Length and Scoring Instructions.
On the top right, select English or Spanish.
Click here to add a protractor or a ruler to the item.
Use the editing tools provided to format.
Make sure to use this first icon to paste in plain text when copying from another source.
For demo purposes, we are starting with everything already entered in.
After entering the question, select the Max Rubric Score.
In this example, let's select 2.
As a teacher-scored item, this gives three scoring options and would provide the student with either zero credit, half credit, or full credit, if answered correctly.
For the response length, type a custom length or select how many characters you want to give students to type their answers.
We’ll keep this one at 475 characters.
Here under the Rubric Scoring Instructions, enter reference text for the teacher that is displayed on the test key.
You can add more information here to help with scoring.
This can include what an acceptable answer may be.
Click Save on the top right when finished.
A pop-up appears allowing you to select standards.
Select the Content Area, adopted year and select the primary course and Student Expectation.
You also have the option to dual code.
Click save.
From this screen, use the icons to make edits to the question, or details on the right.
Use this icon to test how the item reads for text-to-speech.
To add 'Related content', click the Add icon.
Related content, such as reading passages, Maps, and Charts, can be attached to more than one assessment item.
This makes tests easier to organize.
You can also assign keywords to items making them easier to search for in the future.
Click the add icon and put each new keyword or phrase on a new line.
Click save to return to the previous screen.
