Equation Editor Item

From the Math section, the Equation Editor item type allows students to use the selected keypad to enter their answer to a math problem.
This feature is modeled after the Equation Editor from the Texas Education Agency.
Click the box or green plus icon.
There are three sections.
The Question, Keypad, and an area to enter the correct answer.
On the top right, select English or Spanish.
Click here to add a protractor or a ruler to the item.
Use the editing tools provided to format.
Make sure to use this first icon to paste in plain text when copying from another source.
For demo purposes, we are starting with everything already entered in.
Notice that before we move to the Correct Response, we have a warning listed that students must enter an exact match to receive credit for this type of item.
To help students understand that it has to be entered in exactly, you may want to include extra instructions in the question itself.
For example, 7 point 5, 15 over 2, and 7 and one half are technically all the same answer.
However, if you ask students to enter their answers as an improper fraction, they will know to enter 15 over 2 as the right answer.
Because the answer has to be exact, this also includes using the correct amount of decimal places or deciding whether or not to include a zero before answers that are less than one such as zero point five.
The software only scores an item correct if entered exactly as you show in the correct response field.
If a student does enter an answer incorrectly, there is an option to override answers from the online sessions section of TEKScore after they submit their test online.
Before entering the correct response, select the grade level from the Keypad drop-down.
The characters and symbols available for students change based on the selected grade.
Enter the response using the keypad.
Add up to 20 alternate correct responses, making it easier to account for variations in student answers.
This is optional.
Click Save on the top when finished.
A pop-up appears allowing you to select standards.
Select the Content Area, adopted year and select the primary course and Student Expectation.
You also have the option to dual code.
Click save.
From this screen, use the icons to make edits to the question, or details on the right.
Use this icon to test how the item reads for text-to-speech.
To add 'Related content', click the Add icon.
Related content, such as reading passages, Maps, and Charts, can be attached to more than one assessment item.
This makes tests easier to organize.
You can also assign keywords to items making them easier to search for in the future.
Click the add icon and put each new keyword or phrase on a new line.
Click save to return to the previous screen.
