Create User Items

Create your own User item by clicking New from the Test Library or Items and New, completing the General and Question tabs, adding Student Expectations (SEs), and saving.

Helpful Tips

  • User Items are unique to your DMAC login. Other users can only access them when the items are included on a test shared with them.
  • Items you copy in TAG automatically become User Items. You can also create your own items from scratch or enter digital versions of resources your school has purchased.
  • To create an item, select New from the Item Library or choose Items > New from the top navigation bar.

Choose an Item Type

  • Select a category such as Multiple Choice, Text Entry, Match and Order, Highlight and Drawing, or Math.
  • Hover over an item type to learn more about its functionality.
  • Select the item type to begin creating your question.
  • Available fields will vary based on the item type selected.

Create & Save the Item

  • Enter the question stem, answer choices, and correct answer.
  • Select Save when the item is complete.
  • In the TEKS Standards window, identify the appropriate:
    • Content Area
    • TEKS Year
    • Student Expectation (SE)
    • Dual-coded SE, when applicable
  • Select Save to continue to the Item View.

Additional Item Options

From the Item View, you can:

  • Test Text to Speech.
  • Select Add New Part to create a multi-part item.
  • Add Related Content or Keywords.
  • Update the Item Details.
  • Modify the item's TEKS alignment.

Refer to the additional TAG videos for instructions on specific item types and formatting options.

User items are unique to your login in DMAC.
Only you can see them unless you give others access to view or copy them through shared tests.
If you copy an item in TAG, it becomes a User item, but you can also create items from scratch or enter digital copies of other resources your school has purchased.
To create a new User item, click the new icon at the top right of the Item Library in TAG, or select Items and New from the top navigation bar.
This opens the Item Types screen.
Select from the available categories on the left, including Multiple Choice, Text Entry, Match and Order, Highlight and Drawing, or Math.
Hover over the available item types for more information about what each one can do.
Select the box or click the green icon to start a new item.
The next screen will differ depending on the item type selected.
All items include a way to add the question stem, followed by the answer choices.
Refer to our videos about the various item types or formatting tips.
Click Save once you have completed your item, including entering the full question, answer choices, and selecting the correct answer.
Complete the TEKS Standards pop-up to identify the Content Area, TEKS year, SE, or if it is dual-coded. Click Save.
That will take you to the Item View page, where you can test text-to-speech or make the item a Multi-part item using the "Add New Part" button.
Add related content and keywords, or update the item details or its alignment.
